pulled out the nice camera and tried to do the thing.
Most legit Ymir I’ve ever seen. Or will ever see.
not gonna lie i thought this was a hyper realistic painting at first, congrats on your face
um, i reblogged this post the other day but this cosplayer is doing brownface, this is their real skin tone, and as you can see its much lighter than in this picture, so yeah lets not darken our skin to cosplay characters, its racist and just a fucked up thing to do
Tired of people treating brown skin as a costume.
I swear if I see one more person say this is brown face I will explode.
Yeah she’s white but MANY people use self tanner, tan themselves to be TAN or “brown” it’s fucking makeup, don’t think about it hard cause you’re making a fool out of yourself. She’s NOT painting herself brown and going around saying racist slurs or making fun of someone so calm the fuck down. It’s MAKEUP, lets not forget a actor you all love and care about was black for a role, when he’s white. It’s makeup, not racist cream.
I think she did a damn well job and I am amazed at how perfect their freckles and eyeliner is.
1) wow you’re a stupid fuck.
2) it doesn’t matter if she’s “not using racial slurs” it’s still racist as hell
3)you don’t get to reduce darker skinned people and the struggles they face due to their darker skin to a bottle of drugstore foundation that’s 3 shades darker than you because you were feeling adventurous
4)you’ve got some nerve telling dark skinned people to sit here and let this shit slide
5) if this actor you’re referring to is Robert Downey Jr., he’s a stupid fuck for doing blackface too. You and him can start a stupid fuck union with Jennifer Lawrence, Jake Gyllenhaal, Johnny Depp, Zoe Saldana, OP, and all the other idiots who think it’s okay to paint on a skin tone and then wipe it away at the end of the day to portray a dark skinned character while actual dark skinned actors and cosplayers struggle to find characters they can portray without half of America flipping a shit about “accuracy”.
Hello. I’m the cosplayer. I’m going to address this for the final time in the post, because people are very quick to send messages but I’ve responded to this a million times, so I think it warrants an official response. This will be my final say on the matter.
I’m going to quote here the first response I gave the first message I ever got on this:
I am glad you voiced your concerns, they’re every bit valid.
I was raised in Argentina, (latinamerica, and I still live here), where racism was never a subject of discussion growing up, so forgive me when I tell you, very, very honestly that I did not even know what ”brownface” was until I received these asks. It didn’t even cross my mind, and for that I apologize. It is summer where I live, and the self-tanner was not specifically applied for the purpose of cosplay, it was because, well, I was trying to get my tan on a little more easily. When I tan during the summer I get even darker than that, my skin adopts that tone naturally. I had to wash some of it off this time around because I applied it the wrong way and it made my skin look uneven on certain spots. I didn’t ”darken my skin” just to fit a character, the self tanner just became a little more convenient to use since Ymir’s character is just as tan as I get during the summer when I’m at the beach, but since I haven’t gotten the chance to go to the beach just yet, I’ve been tanning outside by the pool. There was no racism in mind at allwhen I made this cosplay, but what you’re saying makes complete sense, especially since I was, like I said, raised in a country where racism was never subject of discussion. My most sincere apologies, I truly had no idea.
Now, I am going to add, the camera settings (the little I know how to use them) were set in a way to filter the image to make the colors pop and be a little more saturated than usual, which probably adds even more to the tan.
My bottom line here is, I was tanning for myself. Because it’s Summer. Because I’m hitting the beach soon. The fact that I messed up the type of tanner for my skin color is completely beyond the point and my mistake when I bought it for being careless, I did not tan my skin to fit a character. I do not endorse doing so and I was brought up in a way, a HOUSEHOLD, where racism was never a relevant thing among us and we treated each other equally, ”brownface” was never even a term we were taught.
I hope this clarifies things for you guys because I feel like it really warrants an addition to the OP.
Again, I apologize to anyone who got offended by this. It was obviously not the goal here at all.
If you could please reblog this version of the post so that this gets around, I’d be extremely grateful.
No, don’t apologize for being who you are, it’s not your fault tumblr is filled with idiots. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if most ofthe people that attacked you were white people wanting to score social justice points.
Keep cosplaying, keep tanning and to hell with anyone who has a problem.
God, I wish folks of tumblr would shut the fuck up and stop attacking people for cosplaying certain characters.
In which I show off my new firearm I purchased earlier in the year.
